Welcome to the jungle! Our plant room, that is.

Seed catalogs have started arriving in the mail, much to the delight of this gardener who didn’t have a whole lot going on in the garden this past year (other than herbs in railing planters on the back deck)….it’s hard to feel like working the garden when your job involves moving plants all day, outside, in all kinds of weather. Compounding that is the fact we have a major bermuda grass problem that forces us to plant veggies in pots, which then require extra watering. But my wife found a good Black Friday deal on some raised bed kits and bought four of them, along with a seed starting system that’s basically a stand with four shelves and grow lights, and a clear cover to keep in humidity, so I’m pretty excited about that! The raised beds are fairly large so we’ll finally have room to grow the variety of crops that we’ve been wanting to.

My wife has been slowly expanding (and taking care of) our “green room”….she’s taken a keen interest in houseplants and is doing a superb job keeping them watered, fertilized, potted up as they grow. It’s looking quite lush, don’t you think? Our house faces southeast so we get a good amount of strong sunlight in the morning through noon or so, then less sun in the afternoon and early evening. It seems to be enough to keep the plants happy! We do have a humidifier going as well.
